On Thursday 10th January 2019, the workshop “FLEXIRES: The role of flexible renewable generation for a successful decarbonisation of electricity” at discussed the role of flexible renewable generation for a successful decarbonisation of electricity.
The geothermal, solar thermal electricity, bioenergy and ocean energy sectors came together for an afternoon of discussions to highlight how flexible renewable technologies fit in Europe’s path towards a carbon neutral economy. The workshop, organised in the framework of the DG ETIP project, included a first panel to present the potential of these energy sources for the effective decarbonisation of the electricity system. A second panel looked at the financing aspect of this transition, and how to value adequately the specific services of these renewable energy technologies: flexibility and dispatchability.
