Geothermal energy is a pivotal form of renewable energy and a key player in the energy transition. Its capabilities encompass electricity generation, heating, cooling, provision of hot water, and thermal underground storage for short and seasonal periods. Moreover, Geothermal is a unique energy that can supply critical raw materials, such as lithium, in a sustainable way.
Under the European Commission’s Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-Plan), ETIP-Geothermal is committed to fostering the widespread adoption of geothermal technology across Europe. Aligned with its Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda for Geothermal Technologies (SRIA), the platform aims to provide improved next-generation geothermal systems and technologies that will contribute to the EU milestone of a climate-neutral economy by 2050.
